Pear Harvesting 2011

This is the Beautiful pear tree on our farm. This year it is loaded with Canning Pears ,so my mom and dad told me they would teach me how to put these pears up. I'm not sure how old this tree is since we just got our farm in 2010.
This is my mom MaryAlice stirring the pot of Pear Jelly and adding the sugar. After peeling in mashing and straining it takes 8 cups of Pear Juice and 8 cups of sugar,we added 1 1/2 box of suregel. I loved pouring the jelly into the jars.we canned 34 pints. It was a beautiful Saturday afternoon spent with mom.

A Morning of Pickin

I took my little black bucket and stepped into the Farm this morning and picked a row of zipper peas, our rows are 100 ft. long, then pulled a 5 gallon bucket of corn for supper. We got a late start on our garden plans this year ,we took the time to fertilize well with goat n cow manure and layed soaker hoses under our black plastic teqnique. With busy folks here with school and a baby we have no time for pulling weeds so this works for us. My daddy taught us this its working very nicely. Found one small spaghetti squash that had turned a beautiful yellow I have never grown these, course this is our first garden on our farm.I grew up on a farm with 7 brother n sisters we had to have a garden when I grew up but this will be my 2nd attempt on my own. Saving that spaghetti squash for Monday nights dinner. So torn between Spaghetti or Alfredo with it!
Tim and Chad finished fixing the fence and Gate to the pasture where we plan on raising meat Goats. Plan on moving our Great Pyrenese (sp) Dog CJ,next week n getting some goats in Spetember.Post some pics after I figure out where my pics are going on my new Droid 3 .LOL. I am a total cell phone picture chic.Chad ,my MAN-Child lol  plans on tilling us some more land this evening  to add more peas for the Fall, I want to try a row of Black-eye peas n Pink-eye peas. We are doing very well on our Okra patch selling some , putting some in freezer for winter soup and cooking a nice pan full each week.We dont really like fried Okra in our Family so a quick cook down on the stove and into the oven to finish is our favorite.
We were given a high chair this week for our little grandbaby Sophia ,this was her first morning of sitting in it while I cooked Blueberry pancakes.I sneeked her a few small pieces just to see if she could eat it  YUP she gummed it to death lol. post pic soon. This high chair will soon be sent down to her Ole Grandmaw's n Great-Grandaddy's for eating on her visits there.
Alrighty off to shell those sweet zippers for the freezer.
May you all have a Blessed Saturday, The Smith Gang
